In the late September and early October 2002 I traveled to the north shore of Lake Superior in order to spend some time photographing the Canadian Pacific. The weather was a mix of temperatures and conditions yet resulted in plenty of memories and images I can upon regularly for inspiration. I hope to do the trip justice in this presentation and that you get something out of it as well.

Much of the Lake Superior shoreline has a wild, undisturbed beauty reminiscent of Isle Royale.

Mooring Ring

The railroad here was built so long ago, supplied by lake boats, it feels like it belongs here.

Rock Tunnel

1800s construction and harsh terrain put the railroad on the only path possible, where it remains.

Passing Through

With supplies to last me for days, my solitude was complete but for glimpses of and from trains.

Lake Superior

A boat is a great way to travel the north shore but always respect the moods of the big lake.

Transcontinental

It's striking to be somewhere so isolated and timeless alongside a permenant way for world commerce.

Caboose Stove

A long history of railroading through here makes for interesting relics worth inspecting.

Clouds

As witness to the change of seasons I experienced heat, a thunderstorm, frost, and a cold rain.

Night Train

After dark the trains would cast light across one bay after another, working against the curves.

Perfect Morning

Once in a great while we find a place with all the elements of a dreamscape, I experience that here.
